The 8 Freight was designed and built by one of the worlds leading independant racing bike designers. Mike Burrows and Burrows engineering had been turning out hand made cycles for years before attention turned to a load carrying cycle. The 8Freights racing pedigree is clear in many of its refinements and innovations and even more so in its performance and handling. The inovitive design has filled a gap in cycle evolution by providing a light, reliable and easy to store cycle that can carry enormous loads. So far a number of 8 Freights have been built and supplied to various users including photographers, Audio Visual and courier companies.

The massive frame is hand welded from 6030 aluminium keeping the weight down and providing an incredibly strong platform. Its 20 inch x 2 inch wheels, fitted with extra strong double butted spokes and custom aluminium hubs are both mono-blade mounted, supported from one side only. Not only does this decrease drag and weight but makes for easier wheel changing. The front and rear wheels are identical meaning a spare will fit either end.

An extra long 3mtr chain, 35 sprocket cog and huge bear trap pedals drive specially mounted Sram 5.0 8 speed gears, selected by a twist grip on the handle bars. Braking is achieved by hub breaks front and rear.They perform well with the heaviest loads and a hand brake and kick stand is fitted for parking.

Although a bit odd for the first few yards and the turning circle takes some getting used to the 8 Freight is very easy to ride. Balance and handling are great, the controls responsive and well thought out. Even loaded with the sound system keeping up with the skate is no effort. Its light weight and slim design makes it very easy to store as well as slip through traffic or a pack of skaters. Reliable and requiring no more maintanence than a normal bike the 8 Freight or Bassfreight is at the heart of the London Skate.
